KMHA BOARD UPDATE 2017
Update to Members on the 2017 AGM
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank our members who attended our AGM on May 30th, 2017. Highlights of this years’ AGM included a Special Resolution pertaining to changes to our constitution and bylaws. Those changes were approved by the members in attendance and can be reviewed on our website under the News Tab. Board Members and Staff provided the audience with an update as to their observations of the 2016/2017 season. The consensus was that the season was a success and that the Association is in a strong position to carry the momentum into the 2017/2018 season. Members can expect to see (1) increased communication as a result of additional town hall meetings, improvements to our website and increased social media presence, (2) ongoing skills development for players as a result of our Skills Instructors initiative, (3) affordable mini camps offered this summer, (4) improved tournament coordination and (5) improved coordination and execution of Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association initiatives such as Bantam and Midget Rep programs. For more information on items discussed during our AGM, please refer to the 2017 AGM Meeting Minutes posted under the KMHA Information Tab.
Another very important part of our AGM is the election of our Board of Directors. I’d like to welcome three new members to our Board as well as one returning member. We are very lucky to have Kelly MacKenzie, Kelly Olson and Scott Millard joining our team. These new members bring expertise to our group in the areas of on-ice officiating, team management, divisional directing, accounting, finance, marketing, and board governance. We’re excited that Dan Macleod has returned for another two-year term and will lead our female hockey initiatives. The following are your Board of Directors for the 2017/2018 season:
Taryn Kuiak – Secretary
Todd Myles – Treasurer and member of Finance Committee
Kelly MacKenzie – Director at Large and member of Conduct/Risk Management Committee
Dan MacLeod – Director at Large responsible for Female Hockey
Scott Millard – 1st VP responsible for Bantam and Midget and member of Communications Sub-Committee
Steve Cawley – 2nd VP responsible for Atom and Pee Wee and member of Conduct/Risk Management Committee and Sponsorship Sub-Committee
Kelly Olsen – 3rd VP responsible for Initiation and Novice and member of Communications Sub-Committee
David Fowler – Past President and member of Finance Committee
Bob Henderson – President and member of the Governance Committee and Sponsorship Sub-Committee
Note: Contact information for all Board Members can be found on our website.
On behalf of the Board and Staff, I’d like to thank Janis McAfee and Tom Watters for their contributions to KMHA. Janis completed a two-year term and was instrumental in updating our new constitution and bylaws as well as leading our safety and risk initiatives. Tom completed a one-year term and was a key part of our Discipline Committee. Both Janis and Tom dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to ensuring our Association operated smoothly and within the parameters as established by our members.
In closing, I’d like to remind all of our members that registration for the 2017/2018 is open and that we are looking forward to an increase in registration this coming year. We are also looking forward to hearing from members who would be willing to volunteer as a coach, manager, tournament coordination, board committee or in other roles. Our Association had over 300 volunteers this past season, each one playing an important role in creating a great hockey experience for our players. Our On-ice Official Team is also looking for both members and non-members who might be willing to wear the stripes this season. Officiating is a great way for players and parents to improve their skills, learn more about the game and to make a little spending money along the way. For more information on volunteering or officiating, please contact Steve Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks to everyone who made the 2016/2017 season a success and have a safe and enjoyable summer with your families.
President, Kelowna Minor Hockey Association
