KMHA LOSES A GREAT SUPPORTER - WE WILL TRULY MISS YOU DUTCH!!
It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we announce the passing of a pillar of the Kelowna Minor Hockey community. Mr. Dutch (Arnold) Hopman passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Dutch gave our association over 20 years of dedicated service. He was involved in every level of our organization and in any capacity that was asked of him. Dutch coached for many years when his son Michael was a member of the association, he served for many years as a Director, was 1st Vice President under former KMHA President Mr. Don Evans, was Equipment Manager and most recently a fixture behind the counter of the concession at Memorial Arena. Dutch epitomized the perfect volunteer. He enjoyed watching the kids each and every time they stepped on the ice and was as much a part of many of them growing up as their families. He followed their successes in their hockey careers and in their school lives. He knew hundreds by name, joked with them, slipped them some candy on the side and forced many a smile after a tough loss on the ice. Dutch was the first one at the rink in the morning to get the coffee on and the last to leave at night when the games were done. Memorial Arena will certainly never be the same as the corner stone is laid to rest. Rest in peace Mr. Hopman and may you forever be remembered for your love of your family, your volunteer work, and for the many children you help guide through the rough waters of childhood.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 1:00pm at Evangel Church 3261 Gordon Drive. Donations in his honor may be sent to the Dutch Hopman Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Kelowna Minor Hockey Association, 1420 Ellis Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2A5.
